Mary Kathryn Archuleta

Mary Kathryn Archuleta holds a B.A. in Psychology/Music Ed (University of Colorado.) A nationally recognized leader and author in Adaptive Music Education, she has devoted nearly 50 years to students with special needs.
Mary Kathryn Archuleta graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and Music Education 1977. Since her own childhood, she has worked with handicapped children and adults. For the past 47 years, she has taught not only students with special learning needs, but also students who are college bound music majors in her own private music studio. This unique mix of students of all levels of ability enables her to offer a wide range of activities, performances and competitions that meet every individual need.
Her teaching career began in Boulder, Colorado where she resided until 1984, when she moved to San Antonio, TX. She currently resides in San Antonio with her daughter where she continues to teach and serve as a coauthor/consultant for the Pre-Primer Level of the Theory Time Reproducible Series of music theory materials.
Mary Kathryn has also lectured and led workshops for the Colorado State Music Teachers Association, the Music Teachers National Association, the Accordionists and Teachers Guild (International), and the Texas Music Teachers Association. Most recently, since her daughter was injured eleven years ago, she herself became the parent of a “special needs adult child,” which has given her a unique professional and in-depth personal insight into the unique educational needs of the students she teaches.
In 2009 her presentations included workshops at the TMEA (Teachers NetCafe) Convention in San Antonio, TX, TMTA - Houston, MENC Southwest Division Symposium - Dallas and the American Accordionists" Association in Memphis, TN. In 2010 she has led workshops at the Hand-in-Hand Conference for the Texas State Division of Rehabilitative Services - Division of Blind Services, and MTNA (Albuquerque). In addition to her duties with Dreams Fulfilled Through Music, she maintains a private studio of thirty plus students weekly and provides mentorship for piano pedagogy students at the University of Texas at San Antonio in collaboration with Dr. Courtney Crappell.
In March of 2010, she was a member of a nationally recognized panel on Teaching Beginners with Special Needs moderated by Dr. Randall Faber at the Music Teachers' National Conference in Albuquerque, NM. In February of 2011, Ms. Archuleta served as a clinician at the Texas Music Educators Assn. State Convention in San Antonio.
Kathryn Marie Archuleta

Kathryn Archuleta, as co-founder fills many roles in the organization, but primarily spends her time in graphic design for programs and the website. She also performs in the Alamo Angels Accordion Accordion Orchestra, mentoring students who need extra assistance. (Read more about Kathryn in the Our History Section.)
Rebecca Rhoades, Assistant Artistic Director
La Vernia, TX
Rebecca Rhoades joined the staff of Dreams Fulfilled Through Music in April 2013 following the untimely passing of Richard Naujoks who had been associated with DFTM since it’s inception and served on the Board of Directors in 2006-2007. Rebecca brings over 40 years of expertise in classroom music to our programming and is a certified ColorSoundation instructor. She holds both Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Music Education as well as Texas All-Level (K-12) Certification in Music Education. Retired in 2009 from the East Central ISD, Rebecca remains professionally active in the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA); the Organization of American Koda'ly Educators (OAKE); the Koda'ly Educators of Texas (KET); the Texas Choral Directors Association (TCDA); and the Central Texas and Gulf Coast Orff Associations.
Her professional accomplishments include over 40 years of music and choral teaching positions in San Antonio and Houston where she has been a pioneer in building inclusion programs to the music classroom long before it was required by the TEA. Most recently, she has started a junior choir program casino online at the First Baptist Church in LaVernia, TX. As a member of the "Alamo Metro Chorus," Rebecca has had extensive experience in performance and directing roles in many musicals, operas, and theatre productions.
Having raised four children, two of whom have diagnosed special needs, she has developed a deep passion for teaching all children with special needs and learning differences. Her children are now all independent adults!
Ada Smerek, Piano and Vocal Instructor
Kerrville and Hill Country Area
Ada Smerek began working with Dreams Fulfilled Through Music in 2012 in her capacity as the Chairman of the Harmony Hills Music Festival of the Texas Federated Music Clubs. For many years, she has taught students with special needs in the Hill Country area and in the spring of 2013 has officially joined DFTM in order to expand the opportunities we are able to provide for families who are unable to drive to San Antonio in search of a qualified teacher for their children with special needs.
Ada holds a Bachelor of Music Degree with a double major in voice and piano from the University of North Dakota where she graduated Cum Laude in 1965. As the wife of a Lutheran Pastor, she has had many opportunities to teach music in small and rural communities in Texas, Minnestoa, Wisconsin and Iowa. Over the years, her experience has included teaching students with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Spina Bifida, Down Syndrome and other learning challenges.
Harmony Brundrett, Piano Instructor
New Braunfels, TX
Harmony has participated in Dreams Fulfilled Through Music performance opportunities at Christmas and for our annual celebrations of World Autism Awareness Day in April since 2009. A highly respected professional, private studio teacher in the San Antonio Music Teachers' Association, Harmony majored in piano performance and minored in voice/church music at the Holy Light Theological Seminary in Kaohsiung, Taiwan and completed internships at the Victoria Disability Home and Bethlehem Home of Disability in Pin-Dong, also in Taiwan.
As the parent of a musically gifted son with autism, whom she has taught for nearly 10 years, Harmony is especially and uniquely qualified to provide special, adaptive instruction to both children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Dreams Fulfilled Through Music is honored to have her as a part of the DFTM teaching faculty in New Braunfels!
